WEEK 52: WHEN I AM WITH MY SON IT IS AWESOME

When I am with my son, Niam, I envy his world, a world of beauty and uniqueness, only he is able to  see, enjoy and embrace.   When the world perceives him to be   “lost in his world” or “stimming”, the repetition of physical movements, sounds or repetitive movement of objects, I wonder is he really lost, or is he an old soul, sent to  this earth , to teach me lessons on enjoying the small things in life. I watch him enjoy the tiny joys of life, his most favourite,  watching the rays of light sparkle and dance through the leaves, while holding up his fingers as puppets, and watching the rays of lights through the whole in his finger. I often think what beauty is he seeing that I am missing.  The simplicity of the activity makes me ponder my need for more complex  and social ways to occupy my time, I ask myself would I be able to sit for hours and be able to see all the dancing colours, the streaks of light, the sparkle, movement, appreciate nature and, be excited, feeling like my day has been full of accomplishments and fulfillment.

The more I watch him, the more envious I become, his life is simple, yet beautiful and complex, it dawns on me, Niam is enjoying every aspect of his life, he is happy and content while the rest of us forget to enjoy what is right in front of us.

This is AWESOME!
